It’s grammatically incorrect to use but I like to use phrases that are unconventional but are commonly known for my purposes! (smile)
This phrase can be used to mean something like “I (or you, etc.) could have done it, should have done it, would have done it –but I didn’t, so maybe I shouldn’t worry about it too much now”.
So much time can be spent living in past regrets! Like, I wish I had gone back to school for that GED, Degree, or specialized skill. Wish I had married that special person or had never made the mistake! I wish I had children, been closer to my kids. What if I had been born rich or in another family? Another location would have made the difference, I wish I looked like so and so, etc. etc. Don’t live your life full of regrets. Our brain tries to make sense of losses by replaying scenarios and questions over and over again what we could have done differently.
The Bible tells us to redeem the times, Ephesians 5:15, 16, “redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Redeeming the time is related to wisdom in how we “walk,” that is, in how we live. Seeking God every day. Asking Him what direction to take.
The word of God tells us not to waste time and not to worry! Worrying or fretting only hurts you. The life of the Christian is to forget those things in the past and reach forward (achieve) to things ahead of us. Even past victories! We can live too much in the glory days and miss the new adventures with God! I love this translation from the Message Bible.
Philippians 3:12-14, “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. I am pressing onto my goals spiritually and physically. I have not reached them yet, but I am pressing forward, not looking back at my mistakes and dwelling on them. But going forward until I reach my goal.“
As Christians, we should live pursuing all God has given us to do while we have time. Only what you do for Christ on Earth earns eternal rewards. There is a lot of fear in the world. One reason obviously, is the virus. It is clear, we are living in the end times. But God is the only one who knows how long this is. It is easy due to lockdowns, to quit, give up or say what’s the use. But this is not being good stewards of our time nor thankful for the giftings God has placed in us. God tells us to be about our Father’s business no matter what the circumstances or how we feel. To occupy until He comes!
The rapture of the church is coming, maybe in our lifetime. Maybe not. We can be found faithful until that day or even our last breath here in this life! The born-again Believer desires to do God’s will. Being in God’s will is not just pastoring a large congregation or serving on the mission field but in everyday living. Things we might consider insignificant will get God’s attention because they are from the heart to serve the true living God who is worthy! Seek Him today, to see what you need to be doing? Remember doing is not always serving, but reading the Bible more, praying, helping others, spending more time in devotional with the Lord or forgiving someone. Whatever it is, God wants you to know!
Live your life to hear the Father say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant!”
