Joseph in the Bible was a man chosen by God for a great purpose! To save his people and even the world from a famine.
God gave Joseph a glimpse of his purpose in a dream.
Genesis 37:9, “the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.” (his parents and 11 brothers).

In Joseph’s naivete, he shared this dream with his father and brothers. Genesis 37:5, “Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.” This increased their already jealous hearts and hatred toward him; for he was there father’s favorite. One day, the brothers devised an evil plot to kill Joseph but then decided to just get rid of him.

The enemy was working through some of the brothers to kill the vision.
Jacob, their father’s heart was grieved when the brothers told them a wild beast had killed Joseph. While in fact, they had first thrown Joseph in a pit and then decided to sell him to traders, who sold Joseph to an Egyptian officer named Potiphar. But God was with him and gave him favor with Potiphar. Potiphar made Joseph overseer in his house. Genesis 39:5, “the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.”
The enemy shows up again and Joseph is falsely accused and thrown in prison for years. All the while, Joseph did nothing wrong. Nothing to deserve this treatment. In everything he behaved honorably!
God never abandoned Joseph, Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” God did not forget Joseph and in time, Joseph was not only released but was second to Pharaoh in the land! When the global famine came, God used Joseph to save his family and the entire world benefited! His brothers and father were reunited but indeed bowed to Joseph as governor of Egypt! The vision spoke!
Joseph was bitter and thought about taking revenge against his brothers. He was in position to do whatever he wanted. But his love for God was more powerful than his bitterness, hurt, and feelings of betrayal. (Genesis 42:17-18; 24). Joseph feared God and did not want to sin against God!

Jesus died for our sin! This included the sins we committed, and the wrongs done to us! Don’t allow a Root of Bitterness to live in your heart. When God shows it to you, release it and allow God to show you how to forgive!

Keep in mind, the other person or people involved may never apologize or repent. They may not even be living. The forgiveness is for you to be free in your heart! To receive the blessing of God in your life! Choosing to hold on to bitterness, can hinder God from fulfilling His purpose in you!
