What’s your zodiac sign?
Most are familiar with this question. I, like a lot of people, grew up following the daily horoscopes. Then after I began studying God’s Word along with spending time with Him, He led me away from such things. Praise the Lord, it’s been over 40 years ago now! I’ve never looked back.
Astrology, horoscope, or zodiac signs are in the same family so to speak. Astrology is the belief that the alignment of stars and planets affects every individual’s mood, personality, and environment, depending on when he was born. Astrologers print horoscopes in newspapers that are personalized by birth date, symbolized by a zodiac sign. Such as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio..
“The psychic services industry—which includes astrology, aura reading, mediumship, tarot-card reading and palmistry, among others—grew 2% between 2011 and 2016. It is now worth $2 billion annually”- according to Google.
The enemy is deceiving many. Not knowing just how God commands us to respond to this. This can be a lack of fellowship with God and time spent reading His Word.
The Bible records when Jesus was born, special kings called Magi followed a type of star or sign in the heavens to direct them to the Christ Child.
Rick Renner, well known author, Greek scholar, pastor, and teacher wrote:
“The Magi saw was an alignment of Jupiter and Saturn. Which did occur in 7 B.C, and it would have produced a powerful sign in the sky. There were also an alignment of Jupiter, the moon, Saturn, and the sun in the constellation of Aries, which was also recorded about that time and would have also created a dazzling and magnificent sight in the heavens.”
“Jupiter’s display was of great significance because the planet Jupiter was associated with royalty. As the Magi were able to read hidden meanings among the constellations. And they were experts, having studied the constellations.”
This event was used by God for a specific purpose.
The magi were notified of the birth of a king in Judea by the appearance of His star. By faith in God, they visited Jesus to worship Him. They bowed before Him with open hearts, receiving Him as King of Kings!
People have strayed from the true meaning of the things of God, such as astrology, and the purposes for which God used it. Putting their faith in other gods.
Astrology is more of a study of the celestial bodies’ positions in the sky. Horoscope is a map or charts representation of the heavens showing the planets’ positions and the zodiac signs. It is not to be used as a guide for how one should act or behave so as to make his day better. Nor is it to be served to foretell some parts of one’s future.
People are searching for hope, meaning, or purpose in their life. The celestial heavens were created to give glory to God and to serve as lights and “for signs and seasons, and for days and years” (Genesis 1:14) for mankind. It is God who created the stars, planets, sun, and moon. And we were created by the same One. We can have meaning, purpose, and hope in this life and for eternity through faith in Him!
He warns us in,
Deuteronomy 4:19,
“And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.”
“Now therefore, says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways!” Haggai 1:5
