The Bible is not to be viewed as just a book of do’s and don’ts but filled with guidelines of how to live your life in Victory! Too many Christians think that what happens to them in everyday living is predetermined by God. For instance, God often uses agriculture to convey a spiritual message of planting seeds and reaping a harvest. Genesis 8:22, reveals that God has established laws in the earth and that these laws will continue as long as the earth remains. The book of Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 is such a principle.
Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4 Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. 5 As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.6 Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.
These verses tells us to cast your bread out on the water. The meaning here is planting your seed in different areas and in the course of time, you will harvest. It tells you where to put your seed. To give a portion to seven people, even eight. It tells you what should you plant? We tend to suppose only money to be a seed. Although it is but not only. And it gives the explanation why at times, when you do plant, you do not reap a harvest?
Attitude is a big tool. Some people do not have lots of money, but they plant a good attitude. That good attitude (an encouraging word, greeting someone with a smile, aiding someone who is sick), planted, will help someone to recover and they will never forget that person. Those acts of kindness will turn to help you when you need something. In case one day, they get you needing something, they will remember what you did.
My wife and I are always trying to be a blessing to others. Recently, my wife told me she was at the drive thru ordering a mocha. When she arrived at the payment window, the cashier informed her the person in the vehicle in front of her paid for her mocha. Directed her to drive up and get her blessing today! The driver waved at my wife and it brought a tear to my wife’s eyes. Although, this was a stranger, that lady was sowing a seed! God will bless her! My wife shared, “That mocha came with a message from God!” Amen! At that same restaurant, prior my wife shared she had given to someone who seemed going through challenges.
A good attitude when you give to people, comforting people, counselling people, you are planting your seed. This one is more powerful than just money. Because sometimes you give money, people can forget. But the attitude you are planting to people, it will remain. It takes a long time for someone to recognize they were changed. Perhaps you were in drugs. Possibly a drunkard. Maybe in debt. Someone shared or gave and changed your life. People don’t forget and this is the seed you have planted. Some people have a hospitality heart. They invite people to their home. They may not have much to give but they just say come. Welcome! Someone just sees this person is a welcoming person. Through this, the Lord blesses them.
These verses are saying, we need to sow seeds and sow in different ways. You don’t know which seed will harvest first. Because whenever, the rain falls from heaven, who comes to empty the earth? The rain itself. The rain just empties the earth. People cry there’s too much rain (flooding) and one day, the rain stops. They are just happy and running around doing whatever they want. God brings the rain down and it empties itself. So, this is how the blessings comes. If you don’t watch, it comes like rain. It comes more and more to you. Another point the Bible teaches, you need to volunteer in the blessing. You have to participate. When it is raining (harvesting), you need to prepare or save for your future. Because when it comes and you have planted the seed, it will grow. This is the hope of the farmer. They will get food. The farmer also plants many different seeds. But if we don’t save, the rain will go and land will again become empty and if we have not planted, we shall get nothing. What will happen if you have not prepared because the opportunity will flee also like that!
These verses further assert, those who watch the wind and observe the clouds, will never reap. People who watch things are afraid. Most people are fearful with what they have. If I give this, I will be without. Most people walk in fear. This one will never plant because they are looking at the wind. They are looking at the situation, where they are right now. Even when someone speaks the word of faith in their life, it cannot produce anything because of the fear that is in them.
You need to break the fear; risk, to get what you want to get. The blessings of God are not only in one place. This is why you should not plant in one area looking at that same place for your blessing. The blessings of God are all over and yet you don’t know where exactly. Some places you can plant a long time to get a harvest. Others, you plant today and get a harvest tomorrow, because the harvest was already ready there for you.
If you miss the opportunity of preparation time, you may go around and around until it is ready again. Even if some planted at the same time, the harvest comes in different seasons. Some areas get harvest earlier. Some later. Example, in Africa if you plant the same time as those in America, in America people will harvest earlier. Africa it may take 6 months before harvesting. Whereas, in America, it may take 3-4 months for harvesting. Therefore, if you are visiting in America for 3-4 months, you are at the time of harvest. Then if you travel to Africa, in another 2 months, you are at the time of harvest.
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it. Isaiah 30:21
Therefore, if you don’t know where it is, you are walking by faith, trusting God, and being led by His Spirit to lead you to the blessing! The Holy Spirit will lead and guide you along the narrow road that leads to life. … God rules our lives through the Holy Spirit who lives within every Believer!
