In this Kingdom, God has set the offices and gifts in the Body of Christ! (Ephesians 4:7-13). “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,” (v.11).
Jesus has given grace according to the measure of how your ability is. How you can do the work.
In the United States, the federal executive departments (currently 15) are the principal units of the executive branch of the federal government. Each department is headed by a “Secretary” appointed and served at the pleasure of the President.
These secretaries or (in other countries – ministers) aid in the development of that country. When Communications is working well, we have good roads, telephones. If we see we have good development in the city, buildings, offices are doing well. If these people appointed, do not work well, we will be low in progress or development in that area and the government cannot be well equipped unless that ministry is well active.
Such is the Kingdom of God!
God set five ministries in His Kingdom. Some, not all, are chosen to serve in these offices which help to equip and edify the saints for the work of the ministry. They are:
Apostolic – are to give instruction and direction to the churches. The Apostle is not serving the church as a religion but as the Body of Christ. Serving everyone, every church, every organization of the believer!
Prophets – many are confused in this office with the ‘gift of prophecy’, (1 Corinthians 14:3). Gift of Prophecy – is the ability to build up, enlighten, or inform. The Prophet is one who hears from God-serving under direction from God to speak to the churches. The Prophet brings correction from God, even to the leaders in the country. To point the finger where something is not right. They are bold and again, speak for God!
Evangelists – office is called to be in the church. They encourage others to go out and witness and bring souls to the church. Evangelist do travel and preach the gospel! Although, all Believers should be witnessing and doing the work of evangelism, only one is the appointed Evangelist in the office of that church.
Pastors – only one office in the church. However, a pastor to be effective, should train others to become pastors and plant churches for the Kingdom!
Teachers – only one office in the church but can be many teachers obviously. Example, in classroom settings.
Unity of the faith happens when these offices in the Body of Christ bring the Believer’s together to speak one faith! When these offices are not effective, everyone will be scattered going their own way. This will not build nor equip the Body of Christ!
The same Spirit of God who gives offices has also given gifts to minister! I Corinthians 12:4-14).
One example is – Gift of faith – the ability to encourage others to have faith. Spiritual gifts are divinely given to individuals. Because they are freely given by God, these cannot be earned.
Each believer needs to know the area of what God has called you to and gifts given to you by God. To be effective in His Kingdom!
