Is God Still Talking?

Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

When I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of 10 years old, I was so serious about it! I pretty much kept to myself and was considered quiet. Even so, I was curious about God. Asking myself, now that I had accepted Him, what’s next? I did not have the teachings of life after the cross or understand the Bible, so I began to seek God for myself! In my own way. I would talk to Him to see what He would reply! I would begin the conversation and would ask God about His various opinions. It became frustrating in a way because all I received back was silence! Nevertheless, I kept talking, with the hope of one day to hear Him!

This continued until one day, a Baptist preacher in the area, challenged listeners to read the Bible in one year! He said, some of you are Christians and have never read the entire Bible. I felt the conviction of this and took the challenge (read previous blog – Resolutions)! Changed my life!

I was seeking the Lord as God informs us in His Word! Notably, Jeremiah 29:13, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

I knew He was alive, and He could hear me, and I wanted to know Him so much! What I did not understand was the importance of His Word! That this is one of the main ways God speaks to you! The Bible reveals to us who God is! What He likes and dislikes! His character and how He feels about us! What we have when we trust Him! From the book of Genesis, that explains how everything got all messed up to our lives now. How God is working in our lives to help us through His Son, Jesus Christ! To the book of Revelations, which reveals not the ending but the beginning of eternity. Of God’s faithfulness to restore all He created! To make every wrong right!

God pointed me in the direction to know Him in the Spirit! John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.” You cannot know God through mental telepathy and human reasoning, as sincere as you may be.

After I begin reading the Word of God, I felt the Holy Spirit moving on the inside of me. I believe the Holy Spirit was rejoicing that I was giving Him something to work with! 1 John 5:7, “And there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” Ever since that time with increased knowledge and spiritual maturity, I’ve learned to hear His voice!

Therefore, some reasons I could not hear God; not around a lot of people (God uses people), not reading the Word (Bible), and I was not filled with the Spirit by speaking in tongues.

If you are not hearing God, ask yourself if one of these are the explanation. Or are you seeking God at all? Then, start afresh and seek Him with all your heart! You will find Him! Wake up to hope!
