Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”
Those who are in Christ are distinguished from unbelievers in that they have been gifted with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to bear (have) fruit.
This “fruit” is singular and is a product of the Holy Spirit, not our efforts. This fruit of the Spirit is also what our born-again spirits produces constantly! Our spirits always have these 9 attributes regardless of what we feel in our emotions. It doesn’t come and go! We just have to draw it out, not go get it.
In John 15:16, is illustrating how the believer needs to grow in their relationship with Christ:
John 15:16, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
In this verse Jesus compares the born-again believer to a branch drawing their life from the Vine, Himself!
John 14:16, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.”
Jesus left us with the Person, the Holy Spirit who supplies the born-again believer with all attributes of the Father! Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control!
John 14:17, “the Spirit of truth, …dwells with you and will be in you.”
This fruit is not in everyone.
The Holy Spirit cannot live in an unbeliever. Prior to listing the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians, Paul lists, “Works of the Flesh.’ (Galatians 5:19-21). You cannot be empty inside as some suppose. You’re either full of the Spirit of God (Colossians 2:9-10) or full of the works of the flesh.
We can choose to allow the Holy Spirit, through our born-again spirits, release every different characteristic of the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5. All these attributes are present already in every Believer!
Hebrews 13:5, “For He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
We have His blessings, His authority, His power, His gifts, His attributes, His victory in Jesus Name!
