We are the salt of the world, and we are the light.
The Bible tells us how every believer is the salt and what the purpose for which God instructed salt to be applied in our lives. Many people use tambourines in praise and worship. One day a member of our church brought this instrument to be used in our worship. Worship was lifted up higher that day. Laughter and joy filled the service! Tambourines bring a different taste or flavor to add to worship and songs. This is the work of the seasoning salt on our food. Every meal where salt applied it has a new taste.

The Believers of Jesus Christ bring a new taste to the world.
Matthew 5:13-16, 13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltness be restored? It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men.
14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
When you enter your house at night the first thing you do is flip the switch. The time of Jesus before the Cross, people used lamps. Even today, in some places people don’t have electricity. They light a fire or sit in the dark. The lamp helps you to see well. Without it we are in the dark.
This is the analogy of the world without Christians.
In the beginning, until God said (Genesis 1:3, “Let there be light”) it was just dark. Jesus is the light. It was not the sun, moon, or stars in the heavens but Jesus, the Son of God is the light! John 1:1, Jesus revealed Himself, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word is Jesus, the Son of God! The Lord describes the New Jerusalem without sun, moon, or stars but only Jesus will the light.

Revelation 21:22-25, “22But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. 25Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there is no night there).”
Jesus is now in every Believer. We are the light. We are the salt in the earth. The world needs the light. You may think you are insignificant but one wick on a lighted candle can illuminate the whole room of darkness. We can’t hide the light. It will just show! People will see something different in you. The way you live your life. The way you talk. The way you react to similar situations. Sometimes we want to run away from the dark. We don’t like the dark. It makes us uncomfortable, and we become afraid. For example on our jobs you may not be accepted in some groups. But God says, stay until change comes. Be a light. Pray for yourself. Pray for the situations. Pray for the people. God will change the situation. However long you are there. God will shine bright in the darkness in order to witness to where you are planted. John 17:15-19, “15 I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” Don’t run from the dark places. Embrace them and know God is with you in it and working through you to be salt and light. The word “sanctify” means “to set apart for sacred use; God wants to use you in these dark places.
Did you know: The salt is the only item that is difficult to lose its taste. There is no expiration date on salt.

In the Old Testament, God spoke of using salt always on offerings. Exodus 30:35, “You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy.”
Leviticus 2:13, “13 You are to season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not omit from your grain offering the salt of the covenant with your God. You are to present salt with each of your offerings.”
Salt offerings were of value, protection, purification, and preserving. As in God’s relationship with Israel (forever) and today, Every Believer! God instructed EVERY offering to be well prepared and it brought a good smell to God!
Selah! Next time instead of cursing the darkness, be salt and light! Flip the switch!

2 Corinthians 2:5, “For we are like a sweet-smelling incense offered by Christ to God, which spreads among those who are being saved and those who being lost.”
