The Chief Cornerstone of Our Faith

HOW ARE YOU BUILDING YOUR HOUSE?

In poor countries many of the citizens live in temporary houses, mud, straws, leaves, etc. These houses are weak and do not have a good foundation. Even in developed countries, there are temporary houses such as mobile homes. A catastrophic weather event would destroy these houses.

Jesus speaks a parable to us today.

Matthew 7:24-27, 24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

Build your house on the Rock! When you build your house on the Rock, when the rains comes, it can withstand. Jesus is comparing the building of two types of houses in this parable. Those who believe in His word and obey Him, will be prosperous. Jesus said we are wise.

In life, your house can be faith. And storms of life come to challenge your faith. If you are not rooted enough, your faith will be weak. This is why so many are walking away from their faith in God, 2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Let no one deceive or beguile you in any way, for that day will not come except the apostasy comes first [unless the predicted great falling away of those who have professed to be Christians has come], and the man of lawlessness (sin) is revealed, who is the son of doom (of perdition).”

In the last days, which we are in, satan is deceiving many to reject their faith before the Lord returns. We see this happening now. The definition of Deception: “the act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.”

Some have received Jesus in their life. Started going to church and walking with Jesus but when events cause fear in you (ex. pandemic), it shakes your faith. They reverse walking with Jesus, maybe not all at once. Gradually, you don’t see the meaning of attending church. One day, you look back and realize how far you’ve strayed away from God. Even you don’t remember how you got there.

Your foundation was temporary.

THIS IS HOW WE ARE TO WORSHIP

Matthew 2:11, “Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

These kings came to worship the young child, Jesus! They saw the Rock, who is Jesus Christ! They fell down and gave! The words “fell down” mean to fall down or to collapse. The word “worship” means to kiss the ground when prostrating before a superior. They gave magnificent gifts! They recognized His worth and value! These kings had been waiting for the Messiah. They focused their search on Him and when God led them to Him, they recognized Jesus as the King of Kings!

How are you building your faith?

Personal devotional time with God; reading His Word, group bible studies; attending and getting involved in local church; prayers and fasting are all good places to start.

Know this, FAITH is the house and life we need to build in Jesus Christ, the Chief Cornerstone!

Isaiah 28;16, “ Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic].”

All other ground is sinking sand.
