The Rainbow by Moses Wafula
Most people when they see a rainbow in the sky after a rainy day, it is a sign of great beautiful and awesome wonder! How does this happen? Indeed, it is beautiful and a wonder to behold but few know the origin or reason the rainbow appears!
The rainbow’s history dates back to the early beginnings of Noah’s time. Remember Noah who built the Ark which housed his family and every male and female species in the earth? Let me refresh your memory if I may.
God, our Creator, had looked on the earth and seen sin abounding or exceedingly great! God was repenting or remorseful He had made man on the earth. God said man’s heart was only evil continually.
This is a sad thing.
Genesis 6:6, “And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.”
Noah, found grace in the eyes of the Lord the bible says and He planned to spare His life and that of his family. God instructed Noah to build an Ark because He was bringing waters that would cover the whole earth. Everything would die! But God who is merciful was going to make a covenant with Noah and He wanted to preserve every species male and female. It is worthy to take note, God waited at least 100 years after announcing this to the day the flood waters came! In this time, Noah was preaching to the souls to repent but they would not nor did they believe rain was coming. They had never seen rain and they did not trust God. Remember, they had evil hearts the bible says. God is not willing anyone should perish.
2 Peter 3:9, " He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
So the waters came; Noah and his family and the animals of each species male and female entered the Ark. All other’s were destroyed. But God waited 100 years to give them chance to change and they would not.
After the water’s God made a covenant with Noah. A covenant is an agreement initiated by someone to another whereby conditions have to be agreed on. In this case, God initiated an agreement or covenant with Noah to never again cover the earth with waters to destroy life.
Genesis 9:11-17, "Never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth. This is the sign of the covenant for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be when I bring the cloud over the earth, the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh."
So, there you have it, for those who did not know or forgot, the rainbow is from God. A promise He made to Himself and all living things, like us, to never bring a global flood to destroy all life! God sent His Only Son, Jesus Christ to save us from sin and the punishment of sin, which is death. God loves you so much, even in these times, there is so much evil but it is not from God! God is a Good God and there is no darkness in Him! Man is evil and rebels against Our Creator! Jesus has come to give life; to save you not destroy you. Man brings our own destruction and we do have an enemy.
The next time you see a rainbow, remember, God made this as a sign of His love and care to you!
