Revelation 19:7-9, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”
John was permitted to see the multitudes in heaven praising the Lord at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
There is an open invitation now to be a part of this marriage! The Bridegroom is the Lord Jesus, and the Church is the Bride. When God calls individuals to Preach the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, He is making an invitation for you to be betrothed to His Son!
To understand the engagement and ceremony of the Marriage Supper we look at the Jewish customs.
Dowry – The wedding tradition during the times of Christ involved a contract between the parents of the bride and the bridegroom. The bridegroom was to pay a dowry to the brides parents. This is symbolism of Jesus, the Son of God, paying the sin of every individual with His blood in which God the Father accepted!
This began the betrothal period. Today, we call it the engagement. Another example is “Matthew 1:18, “birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”
Celebration – In the Jewish culture, the bridegroom along with his male friends went to the brides home by way of a parade, and the bride knew what was taking place as she was to be ready with her maidens.
Since Christ’s Resurrection, the invitation has been ongoing. Whomsoever will come, let them come.”
Christians need to prepare their hearts for when the Lord returns. We are the Church, Christ’s Body! His Bride! One day, He will gather us presenting us to the Father for a marriage ceremony!
Marriage Supper – As we continue to look at the Jewish custom, in Jesus day, the wedding ceremony would extend to 5-7 days. Example would be the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-2).
The Bible tells us the succession of events immediately after the Rapturing of the Church. It tells us there will be hell on earth, called the Tribulation period, which lasts 7 years. Although chaos will be going on in the Earth, in Heaven, Jesus will present those in Christ to the Father, a marriage ceremony of Jesus to the Church, and a glorious celebration/marriage feast will be taking place!
Jude 24, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy”
Praise the Lord God!
In the Parable of the Great Supper Luke 14:15-24, Jesus reveals in this parable, how all are invited but not all accept. This man sent his servant to invite the guests. Symbolizing the house of Israel. Many gave excuses why they could not come. To just getting married; busy at work or preoccupied with their businesses. But the man became upset and told his servant, go, and invite others, the maimed, lame, and blind in the streets, highways (Gentiles). They indeed came and filled His house!
Just as in a marriage proposal, your reply is required. It is not automatic. God will not force you! He wants you to come but the choice is yours!
Choose life!! You must be born again!
